Intense Pulse Light is much kinder to the skin. The IPL system is an extremely precise, revolutionary, state of the art system that can be adjusted to the exact parameters that will specifically disable the hair follicle. Unlike electrolysis where the therapist has to identify and probe each hair follicle, pulsed light uses a prism, which treats many hairs at once. If you are tired of painful waxing, shaving, plucking or electrolysis, permanent laser hair removal may be the best solution for you.
The laser energy which is absorbed by the hair which creates a heat that destroys the hair root without causing damage to the skin. The light is quickly passed over the area, treating many hairs at one time.
Hair grows in cycles. These cycles are known as anagen (growing), telogen (resting) and catogen (dying). In order for the hair removal treatment to be effective the hairs must be at the anagen stage. Research indicates that between 20% and 30% of hair follicles are in the growing or anagen stage at any one time. As a result multiple hair removal treatments are required.
The best results are generally achieved on darker, coarse hair, but other factors may influence the treatment process. The best results also occur when there is plenty of target pigment melanin in the hair and therefore white, blonde and grey hair cannot be treated.We offer a free consultation during which the treatment most suitable for the Client can be evaluated and discussed in person.
Redness and sensitivity of the area of skin treated may be present for a few hours following treatment.
This will naturally depend on the size of the area being treated and can be discussed at your initial consultation.
Treatment interval times vary depending on hair growth however we usually leave 4-6 weeks inbetween the treatments.
Hairs should be roughly 1 to 2mm long when the patient comes in for treatment so it is possible to mark out the treatment area. Long hairs take up the energy and prevent all of the heat reaching the hair follicle. Hair is therefore trimmed just before treatment for maximum transmission of the energy.
If the hair is normally shaved and can be seen then patients can shave right up to the day of treatment. Plucking/waxing should not be done, if the hair is not in the follicle it is impossible to treat it. Bleaching is also not advisable because the heat will not be channeled down the hair shaft as no colour will be present. Seek advice during the consultation if this will not be possible.
The number of treatments vary from person to person. The number of hair removal treatments needed will depend upon the hair density, colour, skin type and treatment area, together with ethnic background and hormones.
Patients should avoid tanning on the treatment area roughly one month ahead of treatment to avoid excessive light absorption in the skin. Immediately after the treatment the skin is particularly sensitive to UV light and strong sunlight should be avoided for at least 2 weeks. High factor sun lotions can be used.
The procedure is non-invasive and pain free. Many people describe the procedure as a flick of an elastic band.
This is to check your skin suitability and to ensure there are no adverse reactions to the treatment. A period of 2 - 5 days must be left between this and commencement of treatment. Not all clients will require a test patch and this will be assessed within the consultation.
All skin types can be treated with the IPL machine except black skin type.
